Tea

qīyóuchá 漆油茶: there is no yak butter in Nu lands, so the Tibetan butter tea is rebuilt on local ingredients — the oil is pressed from seeds of the lacquer tree 漆籽 qīzǐ. Large-leaf Yunnan tea is roasted in a clay pot over the hearth, shaken until lightly scorched, covered with boiling water, boiled, poured into a wooden cylinder smaller than the Tibetan one, lacquer oil, salt and crushed walnut are added, and the mixture is beaten with a pestle to an emulsion. This tea is given to women in childbirth and the weakened; it is also used to soak flatbread. Gongshan and Fugong.

Crown growth

A cluster of three waxy lacquer-tree seeds on a short common stem: the seeds sit in a tight triangle, each FACETED, with flat sides, the wax pale ochre with a bluish bloom; there is no central point in the cluster. At 6 mm — a trefoil with broken facets: a rounded rosette of five lobes with a button at the center belongs to the Dulong, a rounded capsule split by three slits — to the Li.

Headwear

A crescent twist across the crown: a panel of deep indigo rolled into a tight cylinder and laid as a bridge from temple to temple; at the top point the cylinder is open — the seed cluster passes through the gap; the ends are held to the head by a cord under the occiput, with sparse red thread wrapping along the body of the twist. The skull stays exposed in front of and behind the bridge. It differs from the Bai in axis and positioning: there a thin rigid arc stands obliquely on the forehead, here a thick soft roll lies as a bridge across the crown; from the Pumi — in that their band lies diagonally over a closed wrapping, while here the bridge stands above an open crown.

Silhouette at 6 mm. Arc: a crescent laid across the crown with a gap at the top — a bridge over the head. With the Bai the crescent lies on the forehead as a slanted band, with Aya and the Bulan — closed rings around the skull.

Clothing

A long hemp shirt, over it a rain cape of hemp fiber, a waist bundle, leg wrappings on the shins.

Unbleached hemp, mother-of-pearl of shell discs, pale seeds, dark infusion.
